Staffing Ratios & Labor Throughput
Labor is the largest single line in cost-per-gram, and it doesn't scale smoothly — it steps up at harvest and trim. Understanding staffing ratios and where the labor sinks live is how you keep the biggest cost bucket from quietly eating your margin.
Across the cost-per-gram stack, labor is consistently the largest bucket — commonly 30–45%. It's also the least understood, because unlike power it doesn't scale linearly with the run. Cultivation labor is roughly fixed across the cycle, then harvest and trim spike it hard for a short window. Staff for the average and you drown at harvest; staff for the peak and you pay idle crew for weeks. The answer is understanding the ratios and where the sinks are.
